i have heard that blue is the best of the three color trilogy, indeed that it is the only good movie in the trilogy. i may have liked white a touch better - certain moments, at least.

another sad movie, but a good one. the great thing about watching movies on recommendation is that you like most of them.

bulletproof monk

this movie is really bad. some of it is bad enough to be good (or at least amusing), some of it is too mediocre to be good on its own merits, or to be good through its brilliant awfulness. i was hoping a comedy might balance out the malaise instilled by mystic river, but where as that movie was well crafted, this movie was not. ah well.

i’m not sure whether or not i liked this movie. it’s very evocative, emotionally, but it evokes feelings like sadness, pity, and anger. it is well done, though - sean penn, especially, is quite the actor.

people are stupid. really, really stupid. who climbs a mountain just because they can, anyway? this book makes me really want to see a movie about mountan climbing. i read this book in one day. very good.

on the waterfront

another classic under my belt (casablanca, here i come), and another brando as well. there are some very striking moments in this movie, plus the whole “you should have looked after me, charlie, just a little bit” / “i could have been a contender” scene.
