i don't want to be seen as a pretty thing;
it's the pretty things we're always breaking

high fidelity

i have recently been urged by a few people to read this book, so last time i was at a barnes and noble, i picked it up (i almost didn’t pick it up because it had a NOW A HIT MOTION PICTURE! cover with a picture of cusack on it, and i hate those, but i decided not to judge the book by its cover). the book is pretty similar to the movie, which is to say that the movie did a very good job at covering the material and the mood that the book presents. the character of rob is an interesting one, a very real character (in my opinion), who is very candid about all the petty and meaningless actions he goes through. all in all, a good read, though not necessarily better than the movie based on it (see also trainspotting, by irvine welsh).

kalifornia

it is not shocking that brad pitt acts very well in this flick, nor is it surprising that david duchovny does not. duchovny was perfect for the fox mulder role (if nothing else, he made it totally and completely his), but i have yet to be overly impressed with any of his acting turns.

taliesen

today we took a gander around taliesen, frank lloyd wright’s home in spring green, wi. the tour was quite interesting, if somewhat overpriced. one obnoxious thing about the place, and many other FLLW creations, i understand, is the short, short ceilings — many times thoughout the tour i had to duck, lest i scrape my hair on the low ceilings. my dad, who is a few inches taller than me, had it even worse. still, interesting.

also, my parents brought out my new bookcases, which my father built for me as a graduation present. a bit late, as far as presents go, but i didn’t actually specify what i wanted until this summer, and they look fantastic, which makes it all worthwhile.

kramer vs. kramer

a good movie, though it is somewhat of a downer. it certainly won its share of academy awards.
