sex, lies, and videotape
this movie just cements my appreciation of james spader as one of my favorite actors. perhaps it’s because i enjoy his character in the practice/boston legal so much, or because of his sadistic turn in secretary. regardless, he and the rest of the cast act out this slow sexual unfolding quite well. i also find it rather startling that this was soderbergh’s first film, given that he’s now currently involved in popcorn endeavors like ocean’s twelve. don’t get me wrong; i enjoyed watching ocean’s eleven as much as the next guy/girl, it just wasn’t at all similar, in any way, to this film.
