i don't want to be seen as a pretty thing;
it's the pretty things we're always breaking

the illusionist

i quite enjoyed this movie. ed norton was as always superb, and biel and giamatti pull their weight as well.

battlestar: galactica

lea and i have watched through the first season and the first half of the second of this series. it is quite good.

dawn of the dead

hilarious. note to self: this would be a great film to watch on halloween.

the family stone

we got this, thinking, “a comedy would be nice.” i’m not sure how they bill this movie as a comedy, since it’s really more of a drama, complete with buzzkill artistic moments, and only occasionally pushing the awfulness factor up to comedic levels.

mission: impossible iii

meh.

friends with money

lea’s parents are visiting this weekend, and we went to see this.

we also finished tearing down the fence with the application of bill’s sawzall.

a history of violence

a very dark movie, both in subject matter and cinematography.

capote

samurai champloo

andy and i watched through this series in a day, bringing back fond memories of the summer of 2003, when we powered through cowboy bebop (by the same director as this series), and trigun.

the adult swim site for this movie has a mini-game that invites you to “walk a mile in mugen’s shoes. his wooden, ass-kicking shoes.” i found that amusing.

the island

sci-fi goes hollywood. it’s like a hip logan’s run. not as good as, say, the minority report, but not all bad, either. for extra fun, watch through it with bay’s commentary on for some self-important-prick enjoyment.

sadly, there is no line in this movie even half as good as logan’s run’s “kicker.”
